Black Pepper Beef (Daging sapi lada hitam)

This dish is my fist cooking since i moved in U.S. 
I never cooking before, so this dish are perfect for you as a beginner cooker same like me and quick from preparation until cooking process.

I got this recipe from Chinese Food's book by Mary Winata, i brought this book from Indonesia.

Here, I will share the recipe with you and maybe give you some ideas.

What you need :


- 1/3 cup diced sweet onion
- 1 piece green paprika or you can substitute with jalapeno, seeded and diced
- 2 cloves red pearl onion, thinly sliced 
- 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 100 ml water 
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger or 1 cm fresh ginger, brushes
- ground black pepper 
- sugar and salt for taste
- olive oil for saute and fried

--Marinated Ingredients : 
- 200 gram beef, cut into 1x1/2-inches pieces 
- 1 egg, use the white part only
- 1/3 teaspoon ground ginger 
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce

Note : 1 US cup = 236.588237 ml

Make it :

English version
1. Combine and mix marinated ingredients into bowl, refrigerate for 15 min or more.
2. Fried marinated beef until golden brown at both side. Set aside.
3. Meanwhile in a hot wok, saute garlic + ginger and red pearl onion with little bit of oil until aromatic or for approx 2 min under low heat.
4. Add fried beef and water, saute and combine it for 3-5 min.
5. Adjust taste with sugar, pepper and salt.
6. Add paprika and onion, saute continuously and let it dissolve for 3 min.
7. Place into prepared dish and serve with steam broccoli and hot steam rice.

Indonesia version
- Didalam mangkung, campur bumbu perendam dan biarkan dalam lemari es selama 15 menit atau lebih.
- Goreng daging hingga sedikit kecoklatana pada kedua sisinya. Sisihkan.
- Didalam wajan panas, tumis bawang putih, bawang merah dan jahe hingga harum.
- Masukkan daging yg sudah digoreng, aduk rata dan selama 3-5 menit.
- Masukkan garam, gula dan merica sebagai perasa.
- Tambahkan bawang bombay dan paprika, aduk rata hingga bumbu meresap selama 3 menit.
- Matikan api, sajikan bersama rebusan sayur/brokoli dan nasi putih :-)

Preparation Time : 10 min
Cooking Time : 30 min

Servings : 2-3 persons
