Onde-Onde Imut ( Indonesia Mini Fried Sweet Sticky Rice Ball filled with Mung Beans)

I will introduce you to one of Indonesia traditional snacks.

This is one of my favorite snacks since I was young. It's easy to find at Indonesia. The vendor always sell this snack in front of the residential in every afternoon.

How about the taste ? This snack is chewy at the outside and sweet taste at inside.

This time I made a small size, so I don't feel if I was eat a few of it. Oppss! hehehe

Here, I will share the recipe with you and maybe give you some ideas.

What you need :

- oil for fried
- 250 gram sesame seed
Skin Ingredients :

- 250 gram sweet sticky rice
- 25 gram rice flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 25 gram sugar, I substitute with brown sugar
- 200 ml of warm water

Filled Ingredients :
- 250 gram mung beans, skinless, let soak in water for about 1 hour
- 500 ml water
- 175 gram sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

Make it :

1. Filled : In a pot, combine filled ingredients. Stir occasionally. Cook until water evaporated. Set aside.
2. Skin : Combine all ingredients except water in a bowl. Add water little bit while you was mixing the dough. 
3. Take a 2 teaspoon the dough in your hand. Press until you got thin and circle part. In the middle, add 1/2 teaspoon filled. Then cover filled with dough.
4. Put sesame seed into a plate. Rolling the ball into sesame seed, until it covers. Repeat until the dough is finish.
5. In a warm oil, fried the ball until golden brown. Remove from oil then serve.

Indonesia version :

1. Isi : Kukus kacang hijau selama 25 menit hingga lunak. Angkat.
Masak kembali kacang hijau bersama air, gula, garam, air dan daun pandan, hingga air terserap. Sisihkan.
2. Kulit : Campurkan ketan putih, tepung beras, garam, gula, aduk rata. Tuangkan air sedikit demi sedikit, sambil aduk terus hingga kalis dan dapat dipulung.
3. Ambil 2 sdt adonan kulit, tekan-2 di telapak tangan hingga membentuk cekungan. Ambl 1/2 sdt isian, letakkan ditengah kulit, tutup dan bulatkan kembali.
4. Gulingkan adonan pada wijen hingga perukaan tertutup rata.
5. Panaskan minyak, goreng onde-onde dengan api kecil hingga kekuningan dan angkat. Sajikan.

Preparation : 20 minutes
Cooking : 20 minutes

Servings : 40 pieces (The ball diameter is 2 inches)

Pisang Lapis Bubur Sumsum (Banana Cloud Cake)




My Grandmother cooked this for us. This food have softly and sweet taste.

Here, I will share the recipe with you and maybe give you some ideas.

What you need :

- 8 onz Rice Flour ready to use
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup water
- salt
- sugar
- 1 banana, steamed in about 5 minutes


Make it :

1. In a bowl, add 1/2 cup of water and rice flour, stir it until mix well. Put it aside.
2. In a sauce pan, boiled 1/2 cup water and mix with coconut milk .
3. While it boiled, add mix rice flour and water, and stirring occassionaly until mix well.
4. Then stirring gently and often until you feel the dough more weight or in approx 15 minutes under low heat.
5. Add sugar until you feel sweet enough and add pinch of salt.
6. Stirring gently then dough are ready.
7. Now, you have steamed banana and hot rice flour dough.
8. In a tray, put 1/2 hot rice flour dough. Add banana on top of it, then cover it with rest of hot rice flour dough.

Let it cool in about 10-15 minutes, then you can serve it :-)


Preparation Time : 5 min
Cooking Time : 20 min

Servings : 5-6 slices

Potatoes cake (Kue Lumpur Iris)

What you need :

- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cup pototoes, hard boiled then smashed
- 3/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 btr egg500 ml milk
- 1/3 cup cheddar chesse, grated
- Raisin, put on top of the cake

Note : 1 cup US = 236,588 ml

Make it :

English version
- Beated sugar and milk until soft in approx 5 min
- Pour milk and potatoes, beate in medium speed until mix together.
- Add all purpose flour and left part from the milk, mix it.
- Add chesse, and melted butter, mix it.
- Put 3/4 from the dough at the tray.
- Add Raisin on top of cake.
- Pre-heat at 350 degrees F oven until done for approx 20 minutes.
- Let it warm before serve ^_*

Indonesian version
- Kocok gula dan telur sampai pucat dan mengembang 
- Tuang susu cair setengah bagian perlahan- lahan 
- Masukkan kentang sambil dikocok rata 
- masukkan terigu sedikit- sedikit sambil dituangi sisa susu cair. 
- masukkan keju parut,aduk, tuang margarin leleh, aduk rata. 
- Tuang kedalam cetakan kue sampai hampir penuh, 
- beri kismis diatasnya, panggang dlm oven 350 derajat hingga matang
- hidangkan hangat ^_*

Cooking Time : 20 min

Servings : 6-8 slices

Pondan's Steam Rice Cup ( Pondan Kue Mangkok )

I got this cup cake mix from Asian Store at Goleta (Santa Barbara). We found this at Asian Store. The Store are next to USCIS Goleta while i got appointment for my Green Card Application.

I miss this cake, so i bought the cake mix and it's so easy to make it.
So, i don't give you the ingredients and direction, cause you can follow the instruction behind the box ;-)


Nagasari tanpa daun pisang (Banana Rice Cake)

This is another Indonesia's traditional cake, and also one of my favorite. As we call with Nagasari and i give call Banana Rice Cake in English.

This cake should be wrap with banana leaf, but because i don't have any to keep right now, so i don't wrap it. But the taste still yummy and my husband love this cake ;-)

What you need :

200 gr rice flour 
1 cup of water- or you can add more the water to make the dough dissolve and smooth
2 cup coconut milk
a pinch of salt 
4 tbsp sugar - you can adding as you wish 
4 pieces banana, steamed for another 1-2 minutes then peeled
casserole dish or baking pan or banana leaf 
1 stalk Pandan leaf

Note : 1 cup = 236.588237 ml
Pandan leaf is Pandanus Amaryllifolius leaves - Source Wikipedia

Make it :

English version
- In a bowl mix rice flour and water until smooth.
- In a pan, put coconut milk, sugar, salt and Pandan leaf under low heat until boiled.
- Pour mixed flour with water into boiled coconut milk, stirring occasionally until mix together under low heat and cooked in approx 20 min.
-Put a half of dough at casserole dish, then add banana on top of it.
- Then cover banana with left over dough.
- Use spoon to make flat.
- Steamed it in approx 20 min.
- Let it cool in 30 min, then cut in a piece then serve.

Indonesian version
1. Aduk tepung beras dan air 
2. Rebus dan aduk santan bersama garam, gula dan pandan. Tambahkan larutan tepung, aduk hingga mendidih dan meletup-letup.
3. Tuang 1/2 adonan ke dalam loyang. Masukkan dan atur pisang.
4. Kemudian masukkan adonan sisa. Ratakan adonan.
5. Kukus hingga matang lebih kurang 20 menit.
