Simple Rice Porridge served with Chicken and Green Onion ( Bubur Ayam Sederhana )

Mostly this dish is available in the morning or evening in Jakarta. The vendor sell this food in front of a home. 

Actually this dish is one of Chinese Food, but people in Indonesia modified it. So, this dish is different one each other in every city in Indonesia.

I haven't cooked this dish before and now, I made it with my own style. This dish wasn't my original recipe, i searched from some cooking websites then i made with my own creation and turn out so good.

This dish is perfect for cool weather.

This dish is missing sliced Chinese long doughnut, because i don't find in our city, maybe next time i make it.

What you need :

- 1/2 cup rice
- 500 ml water
- 1 piece chicken thigh
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon fish oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

Topping ingredients :
- 1 stalk green onion, thinly slice
- fried shallots - available at Asian store
- soy sauce or sweet soy sauce
- dry crushed chili
- Chinese Long Doughnut, thinly sliced - this time i don't use it
- Cracker (Emping Melinjo) - available at Indonesian store

Chicken seasoning :
- 1 cloves garlic, smashed
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil + 1 tablespoon oil for saute

Make it :

1. Bring water to boil. Then add chicken, cook for 15 minutes or until no longer pink, take chicken from the broth, cut skin part and bring back to broth, and cooked chicken tear in pieces. Set aside.
2. Add rice and garlic to boiled broth, stirring constantly. Reduce heat, cover, simmer for about 25 minutes, stirring constantly. Add salt, sesame oil and fish oil, stirring gently then simmer for about 5 minutes. Don't forget to taste.
3. Meanwhile, in a hot skillet, saute garlic with oil + sesame oil for about 2 minutes, add chicken, saute constantly for 5 minutes until chicken are covered with seasoning. Remove from the heat and set aside.
4. In preparation bowl, place hot rice porridge then topping with seasoning cooked chicken, green onion, soy sauce, smashed cracker, Chinese long doughnut and drizzle with crushed chili if you desire hot taste. Enjoy.

Preparation : 5 minutes
Cooking : 35 minutes

Servings : 2-3 servings

Steamed Broccoli and Cauliflower with sweet and sour sauce ( Rebusan Brokoli dan Bunga Kol siram saus asam manis)

I made some modified from the original recipe. I adding broccoli and pour the sauce on top of the steamed cauliflower and broccoli.

This recipe is healthy and easy from preparation until cooking process.

What you need :

- 2 cup broccoli, wash and trim ends part
- 2 cup trim cauliflower
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup dice onion
- 1 stalk green onion, thinly slice
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- sugar, salt and white pepper for taste
- oil for saute
- 100 ml chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch dissolve with 2 tablespoon of water

Make it :

1. Steam broccoli and cauliflower for 2 minutes, better if this veggies are crunchy. Drain, place into preparation dish and set aside.
2. Meanwhile, in a hot wok, add oil and garlic, saute gently for 2 minutes then add onion, saute for 2 minutes and use cooperate heat.
3. Add chicken broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ketchup then saute continuously for 3 minutes.
4. Adjust taste with salt, sugar and pepper. 
5. Let it simmer for 1 minutes then add mixed cornstarch and water into sauce. Saute gently then remover from the heat.
6. Pour into the steamed vegetables and serve hot. Enjoy.

Preparation : 5 minutes
Cooking : 15 minutes

Sauteed Chicken with Hoisim Sauce and Jalapeno (Ayam Tumis Saus Hoisim dan Cabe Hijau)

This recipe is re-posting. I made some improvement in this recipe.

What you need :

- 2 pieces chicken thigh, prefer boneless and skinless, cut into small chunk
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce 
- ground black pepper 
- 1 part white egg  from an egg 

Sauce Ingredients :
- 1/3 part from onion, thinly sliced 
- 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger or 1 cm fresh ginger
- a stalk green onion, sliced 
- 3 tbsp Hoisim sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce 
- green+red chili, matches sliced 
- salt and sugar for taste
- 1 tsp oil + 1 tsp sesame oil, for saute

Make it :

1. In a bowl, combine and mix well sliced chickens, soy sauce, white egg and black pepper. Set aside for 15 minutes or more.
2. Meanwhile, in a hot skillet, add oil for saute then garlic, ginger and onion, saute gently until aromatic or for approx 2 minutes and under cooperate heat.
3. Add seasoned chicken, saute gently until no longer pink or for approx 5 minutes.
4. Add Hoisim sauce, soy sauce, salt and sugar. Saute gently then taste it.
5. Add green and red chili also green onion, saute for 3 minutes and let it simmer and sauce dissolve.
6. Place into preparation dish and serve hot. Enjoy. :-)

Black Pepper Beef cooked with Green Paprika (Daging Sapi Lada Hitam Paprika)


I have never cooked before, I decided to bring a recipe book from my country and I brought some recipe's book for beginner. This is my first dish that I've made and successful also turn out so good.
So trust me, you can make this dish, too because this dish is easy from preparation until cooking process.

What you need :

- 300 gram beef, slice 1/2x1-inches pieces
- 1/2 onion, thinly slice
- paprika, seeded and dice
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- oil for saute and fried
- 2 cloves garlic, mince
- 2 cloves onion, mince
- 1/3 teaspoon ground ginger
- 100 ml water
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- salt and sugar for taste

Marinated seasoning ingredients :
- 1/3 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 tablespoon corn starch or tapioca flour
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce

Make it :

1. Combine marinated seasonings in a bowl, then add and mix with sliced beef. Set aside for 15 minutes or more. Fried until golden brown at both side. Set aside.
2. Meanwhile, in a hot skillet add oil and saute garlic and onion for approx 3 minutes. Then add ground ginger and saute gently for approx 1 minutes.
3. Add fried beef, saute gently then add soy sauce, black pepper, and water. Cook for 5 minutes or until water evaporated and turn heat into medium low.
4. Adjust taste with sugar and salt. Add paprika and sliced onion, saute continuously for approx 2 minutes.
5. Place into preparation dish. Serve hot with side dishes and steamed hot rice. Enjoy.

Preparation : 5 minutes
Cooking : 20 minutes

Steamed Asparagus with Oyster Sauce ( Asparagus Saus Tiram)

Yesterday I cooked Chinese Food. I made Black Pepper Beef and Asparagus as the side dishes.
This dishes is easy to make from preparation until cooking process.

What you need :

- a bunch Asparagus, maybe about 1/2 lb, cut 1/2 inches ends part
- 1 stalk green onion, thinly slice
- 3 cloves garlic, thinly slice
- 1/3 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 spoonful Oyster Sauce
- 150 ml chicken stock
- salt and white pepper
- oil for saute
- 2 teaspoon corn starch dissolve with 1 tablespoon of water, i skip it.

Make it :

1. Steam asparagus for 5 minutes. Drain then place into preparation dish. Set aside.
2. Meanwhile in a hot skillet add little bot of oil then saute garlic and ginger for 3 minutes.
3. Add chicken stock and oyster sauce. Adjust taste with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
4. If you wish thick sauce, you can add mixed corn starch and water. Stir frequently and let it simmer for 3 minutes.
5. Pour the sauce on top of steamed asparagus. Serve warm and enjoy.

Preparation : 5 minutes
Cooking : 15 minutes

Spicy potato shrimp ( Balado Kentang Udang )

This dish suppose to be spicy but this time i adding more tomatoes so you will get sweet taste with little bit of spicy taste.

You can substitute shrimp with chicken or beef or squid.

What you need :

- 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled from the jacket
- 1 piece big potato, peeled, dice
- 2 pieces big tomatoes, dice
- 5 cloves shallots, thinly sliced
- 2 teaspoon sambal oeleg, skip it if you don't like spicy and substitute with pepper or diced  jalapeno
- 1/2 cup water
- sugar
- salt
- oil for saute

Make it :

1. In a hot skillet, add oil then saute shallots for approximate 3 minutes. Add tomato and sambal oeleg, saute gently then add water and potato. Cook under cooperate heat.
2. Meanwhile potato almost tender then add shrimp, saute continuously and cook until water evaporate also reduce the heat.
3. Adjust taste with sugar and salt.
4. Place into prepared dish and serve with steamed rice and vegetables. Enjoy.

Preparation : 5 minutes
Cooking : 30 minutes

Baked Chicken cooked with Pasta Sauce

This time, i have experience to use pasta sauce instead of tomato. Pasta sauce has a lot of spices ingredients so the chicken turn out so good.

What you need :

- 4 pieces chicken thigh, or any part of the chicken
- lime juice
- oil or butter for saute
- salt and sugar

Spices, finely chopped :
- 4 cloves shallots
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 cup pasta sauce, you can adding more if you desire or you can substitute with pepper
- 1 piece jalapeno, seeded,dice
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Make it :

1. Marinated chicken with lime juice for at least 10 minutes or more. Preheat oven 350 F.
2. Meanwhile in hot skillet, add little bit oil or butter, saute spices ingredients for approximately 5 minutes then add chicken. Saute gently for 5 minutes.
3. Remove from the skillet into preparation baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes or cooked through.
4. Place into preparation dish and serve with steamed vegetables and hot steamed rice. Enjoy.

Preparation : 10 minutes
Cooking : 30 minutes

Serving : 1-2 servings

Steamed Wonton with Chicken, carrot, bamboo shoots and green onion filled

We like steamed wonton, that's why i always improve to make it.
Mostly while i made wonton, i serve with clear or light soup.
The clear soup recipe you can find at my another recipe for example : Mixed vermicelli noodles and shrimp meatballs.

What you need :

- 1 piece chicken thigh, boneless and skinless, grounded
- 1/2 cup shredded carrot, set aside 1 teaspoon for garnish
- 2 stalk green onions, thinly slice
- 2 cloves garlic, shredded
- 2 tablespoon corn starch
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced bamboo shoots
- 1 teaspoon fish oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- salt, sugar and pepper
- wonton wrapper

Make it :

1. Place all Tofu steamed dumpling ingredients except wonton wrap in a bowl, mix well.
2. Take a spoon drought and wrap with wonton wrapper, use water as a glue in every corner of the wrapper, garnish with shredded carrot then steam for 15-20 minutes.
3. Remove into prepared plate and serve hot with chili sauce or ketchup.

Preparation : 5 minutes
Cooking : 20 minutes

Servings : 8 - 10 pieces

Sweet and Sour Steamed Shrimp ( Pepes Udang )

What you need :

- 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled from the jacket

Spices : (finely chopped)
- 3 cloves garlic
- 3 pieces candle nut
- 1 big red tomato
- 2 teaspoon sambal oeleg or 2 pieces big red chili
- 1/2 teaspoon tamarind
- salt
- sugar


Make it :

1. Combine spices ingredients to a bowl. Don't forget to taste. Place into steamer dish, add peeled shrimp and mix with spices.
2. Steam for another 15-20 minutes.
3. Place into prepared dish and serve with steamed vegetables. Enjoy.

Mixed vermicelli noodles and shrimp meatballs ( Baso Bihun Udang )

What you need :

Meatballs :
- 5 pieces big shrimps, finely minced
- 1/2 cup grated carrot
- 1 cup vermicelli noodles, cook for another 2 minutes into boiled hot water, drain
- 2 stalk green onions, thinly slice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- salt, sugar and ground pepper
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce

Soup :
- 3 cup chicken broth
- 2 cloves garlic, thinly slice
- 1/3 cup diced onion
- salt, pepper
- bok choy

Note : 1 US cup = 236.588237 ml
Make it :

1. Combine meatballs ingredients in large bowl. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place in steamer. Steam for 15 minutes or until fully cooked. Set aside.
2. Meanwhile, in a pot, bring broth to boil. Add garlic and onion. Let it cook for approximately 3 minutes.
3. Season with salt and pepper. Don't forget to taste. Add bok choy or any vegetables, let it simmer for another 2 minutes. 
4. Transfer to serving bowl and add meatballs. Serve hot and add chili sauce if you are desire :-)

Preparation : 5 minutes
Cooking : 20 minutes

Servings : 8 pieces (ping pong balls)
